Chippa United have further bolstered their squad ahead of the 2017-18 Absa Premiership season with the signing of Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo.
The Chilli Boys confirmed the capture of the goalkeeper on a three-year-deal on their official twitter page and website, putting to bed the stir caused by chairman Siviwe Mpengesi, who reportedly went on radio and stated that the move had been concluded when it had not.

Mpengesi welcomed Mhlongo to the Port Elizabeth side, revealing his delight at the signing of ‘one of the top goalkeepers in the country.’
‘We are pleased to confirm that Brighton will don the Chippa United jersey for the next three years,’ he said on the club’s website.
‘He is one of the top goalkeepers in the country, and his arrival can only strengthen us going to the season ahead,’ he added.
Mpengesi concluded by thanking Pirates for their professionalism during the duration of the negotiation period.
‘Thank you to Dr Khoza and Orlando Pirates, they once again showed their professionalism during negotiations.
‘I would also like to thank Prosport International for their contribution in making this deal happen.
‘Lastly my management team down in Port Elizabeth, in particular Peter Koutroulis, who worked tirelessly in tying up this deal,’ he concluded.
Mhlongo becomes Chippa’s fifth signing of the season, following the arrivals of Kurt Lentjies, James Okwuosa, Mahlatse Makudubela and Samuel Julies respectively. The club have revealed that more additions are expected as they look to improve on their 13th-placed finish last season.
