Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed the signing of midfielder Cole Alexander, citing him as a long-term prospect for the club.
Hunt ended speculation surrounding the former Bafana Bafana midfielder, when he revealed that the Ajax Cape Town youth product had penned a contract with the Sturrock based-outfit.
‘Yeah, Cole Alexander’s here. We’ve signed him,’ he told Kickoff.
‘A few [central midfielders] are going, and a few have gone already, so we have to look at the long term as well,’ he added.
The Clever Boys recently parted ways with former Everton man Steven Pienaar and Xola Mlambo, who completed a move to Orlando Pirates.
Alexander was released by SuperSport United last month following an 18-month stint with the club, which was plagued with injuries.
The 28-year-old faces stiff competition in Hunt’s starting XI and will have to compete with the likes of Thabang Monare, Granwald Scott, Edwin Gyimah, Ben Motshwari and Phumlani Ntshangase for a place in the team.
Wits’ next assignment sees them face Golden Arrows in a league encounter on Saturday afternoon, with kickoff set for 15:30.
