Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela said the acquisition of Leonardo Castro from Mamelodi Sundowns proved to be a no-brainer in the absence of a proven goalscorer at the club.

The Soweto giants secured the services of the Colombian forward who will join Chiefs in the new year, bringing an end to his two-and-a-half year stay at Sundowns.

Chiefs have scored a measly 13 goals from 15 matches played in the Absa Premiership this season and Komphela is confident that Castro can improve these numbers.

‘It’s normal, it’s tradition. We try to rectify in areas where we think we can do better and one good thing is that we still have space for a foreigner,’ he told reporters.

‘It would only be logical to look in where you can.

‘Once things become clearer we’ll take it from there, but it is not as easy as you and I are talking about… there’s a lot of work to be done.

‘Whatever it is, you are not dealing alone but you are dealing with others. So it becomes a bit difficult but we are willing to do go through these difficulties.

‘But the most important thing is to concentrate in-house and try and rectify, get the momentum and wins, and things will get better,’ he concluded.

Castro netted 15 times in 57 outings in all competitions for the Chloorkop based-outfit and is expected to compete with the likes of Gustavo Paez, Bernard Parker and Dumisani Zuma for a spot in Komphela’s starting eleven.
