Amajita are set to take on Guinea in the 14th edition of the Caf U20 African Cup of Nation third and fourth place playoff match on Sunday.

The two sides will battle it out for the bronze medal on Sunday, with kick-off set for 14:00, while Zambia and Senegal will go head-to-head in the finals of the African Youth Championship.

South Africa and Guinea have never met in an international match. However, both sides have managed to qualify for the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup by making it to the top four of U20 Afcon.

The South Africans have now turned their focus to the FIFA U20 World Cup, which will take place in South Korea from 20 May – 11 June 2017.

Thabo Senong’s charges will use the 3rd/4th place playoff match as part of their first phase of preparations for the prestigious tournament.

Amajita coach Thabo Senong has revealed that his side are mainly focused on their exploits in the Fifa U20 World Cup in South Korea.

‘We are in World Cup mode now, and everything we are doing going forward is in line with those preparations. The technical team is now focusing on some of the weaknesses we picked up throughout the AFCON,’ Senong told Safa.net.

Meanwhile, Senong continued to say his side will be more disciplined and compact when they fight Guinea for the bronze medal on Sunday.

‘Guinea will be a good opponent for us, first for our players to fight for the bronze because it would be very nice to conclude the tournament with a medal,’ he added.

‘Secondly, they will test us in many departments – we look forward to keeping a compact defence, like we did against Zambia. We want to concede less free kicks and ensure that the players stay focused and disciplined in critical phases of the game.’

Amajita will now take on Guinea in the third and fourth place playoff at the National Heroes Stadium on Sunday.

Kick-off has been set for 14:00.
