Mamelodi Sundowns defender Wayne Arendse has revealed that participating in the Fifa Club World Cup is the most memorable moment in his professional career.
The 32-year-old, who joined the Brazilians in 2012 from Santos, now forms a part of the club’s formidable defence structure alongside Thabo Nthethe.
The defender remained humble by insisting that his only focus is on contributing to the team’s success but admits that playing in the global tournament is the highlight of his career.
Through this, Arendse has earned silverware, bringing maturity and experience to a considerably young squad.
‘To be honest with you, I never thought I’d be here in Japan or even winning the champions league. When I wasn’t playing regularly, my mind was only focused on making the team and contributing to its success,’ Arendse told the Mamelodi Sundowns website.
‘I was working very hard and consistently put my hand up until Coach Mosimane noticed me. Evidently, it has all paid off as today I’m here.
‘I’ve won the league, cups and champions league and today I’m playing in the same tournament as Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo. This is the highlight of my career playing in the world cup and I just want to make the best of it”
Mamelodi Sundowns are now set to face host Kashima Antlers in the quarter-finals of the Fifa Club World Cup on Sunday.
Kick-off has been set for 12:30.
