Mamelodi Sundowns great Alex Bapela is pleasantly surprised that the club’s star player Khama Billiat has not moved on.
Billiat was the shining light for Sundowns last term as he claimed the Player of the Season award following his 12 goals in the side’s successful Absa Premiership campaign.
The Zimbabwean has continued his run of good form in the Caf Champions League and Bapela is surprised a bigger club is yet to come calling.
‘I don’t know how he [Khama Billiat] is still here in South Africa,’ he told Soccer Laduma.
‘That guy could be playing anywhere in the world. He’s so good, it’s crazy.’
Bapela has professed his belief that Pitso Mosimane’s side can continue to improve and is confident the side can dispose of likely semi-final opponents Zesco United from Zambia.
‘Sundowns are already in the semi-finals and it looks like they are developing, while other teams look to be on a decline,’ he continued. ‘I think they will be able to beat the other team from Zambia,’ he concluded.
Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns face a long wait for their opening fixture with the Brazilians currently occupied with the Caf Champions League duty. Their first match is set for Wednesday, September 14 with a trip to the Harry Gwala Stadium to face Maritzburg United.
