Baxter: Ritchie a 'talented footballer'

SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter believes defender Keegan Ritchie will add value to the team not only in defence but also on attack.

The 25-year-old agreed to join Matsatsantsa in a swop deal that saw Sibusiso Khumalo head the other way.

Ritchie, who is a product of the SuperSport United academy, has extensive experience in the Absa Premiership having played for Moroka Swallows, Bloemfontein Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs, reports the SuperSport United website.

During his time at Chiefs, Ritchie added two Absa Premiership titles, an MTN8 title and the Nedbank Cup title to his CV.

The 62-year-old coach believes that bring in a player like Ritchie is part of Matsatsantsa’s philosophy.

‘It’s part of our philosophy to bring in talented young players who like to learn and develop themselves, and that’s true of Ritchie,’ Baxter said.

Baxter hailed the former Bloemfontein Celtic defender as a talented and mentioned that he will add value to the teams attack and defence.

‘He is a talented football player with a cultured left foot and will add value to our attacking set pieces as well as our defensive structure,’ he added.

During his only season at Amakhosi, Ritchie has made a total of eight appearance in all competitions as he struggled to break into the first team behind Tsepo Masilela.
