SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter is under no illusions that Mamelodi Sundowns are the team to beat this season.
With SuperSport set to face the champions in the MTN8 on Sunday, the British coach is aware he faces an uphill task if his side are to battle past the Brazilians.
Having dominated the Premiership last term, Baxter has stated Downs should feel disappointed should they fail to claim all trophies on offer this term.
‘I think it will be terrible if Sundowns don’t [win everything],’ Baxter told the media, reports KickOff. ‘With all their resources, I think they are definitely favored to win everything.
‘I will be very upset with them if they don’t win anything… We can play those mind games all the way, but they are going to get it [the favourites tag] because they have been the shining team in the country.’
Baxter explained that he had been in a similar position to Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane during his tenure at Kaizer Chiefs, when the Amakhosi were expected to sweep aside all who opposed them.
‘I’m sure a lot is expected from their team; we expect a lot from ourselves. I think in terms of Sundowns, they have set the bar high in the last couple of years and everybody is chasing to see if they can reach that level.’
The coach concluded by explaining that it would be stunning for his side to upset the Chloorkop giants, while a defeat at their hands would not cause much of a stir.
The match will be played at Loftus Versveld Stadium.
Kick-off is at 15:00.
