'Build combinations' – Muchichwa to Chiefs

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Robson Muchichwa has called on the club’s coach Steve Komphela to dream up new combinations.

The Amakhosi have released a score of players in the off season and brought in numerous new stars in what marks a dramatic overhaul of the squad.

Muchichwa, for his part, has backed the decision, saying he barely recognised the team given their underperforming displays last season.

‘I think Chiefs needed to do this [revitalise the squad]… If you don’t pull your weight at a team like Kaizer Chiefs you need be out of the team,’ Muchichwa told KickOff.

‘Because the team that played last season, for me, I was not happy. Things were not happening and there was no combination; there was no fighting spirit. In actual fact, for me, there was nothing.’

The former midfielder believes the performances of the club last term were unacceptable for a club of Chiefs’ stature.

‘We could lose against some small teams: Platinum Stars, Chippa United and, no disrespect to them, but that is not acceptable when you playing for Kaizer Chiefs because it is a big club.’

‘I think they need to build up the confidence – that is number one. Number two: they need to be build combinations,’ he concluded.
