Cameroon and Burkina Faso were forced to share the spoils in their Afcon opener after playing out a 1-1 draw at the Stade d’Angondje on Saturday evening.

The Indomitabe Lions got off to a good start and came close to breaking the deadlock in the 19th minute when Christian Bassogog fired his effort into the side-netting as the scoreline remained goalless in the opening exchanges of the match.

However, Cameroon eventually took the lead in the 35th minute when captain Benjamin Moukandjo curled the ball into the top corner from a free kick on the edge of the box to make it 1-0.

The Lions dominated possession as the first half went on and nearly doubled their lead in the 40th minute but Burkina goalkeeper Kouakou Koffi produced a superb save to deny Clinton N’Jie.

Burkina Faso nearly found the equalising goal just before the break but Cameroon shot-stopper Fabrice Ondoa was on hand to deny Prejuce Nakoulma’s effort.

Ten minutes into the second half, Cameroon had a good chance to double their lead when N’Jie fired his effort wide of the target from six yards out.

However, the Stallions eventually found the equalising goal in the 75th minute when defender Issoufou Dayo who scrambled home, capitalising on a poor defending by the Cameronian backline from a resulting free-kick.

During the closing stages of the match, Both sides went in search of the winning goal but were unable to carve out any clear-cut opportunities as the matched end 1-1 until the final whistle.
