Bloemfontein Celtic secure their first victory in the Absa Premiership following their 1-0 win over Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday.
In the opening exchanges of the match, Dikwena enjoyed the best spell of possession, while Celtic were happy to sit back and soak in the pressure in the hopes of catching Stars out on the counter attack.
The first opportunity of the match came in the 27th minutes when Platinum Stars midfielder Robert Ng’ambi forced Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tigyemb into making a fine save.
Dikwena continued to dominate the match as the half went on, while Ng’ambi and captain Vuyo Mere continued to threaten the Celtic goal.
However, Celtic broke the deadlock with their first effort on target just before the half time break as Fiston Abdul Razak slotted home from close range to make it 1-0.
Cavin Johnson’s side pushed forward in the hopes of finding an equalising goal in the second half and they nearly came close to levelling matter with efforts from Henrico Botes and Siyabonga Zulu.
Dikwena coach Johnson opted to make a double change bring on both Thobani Khunene and Kobamelo Kodisang as they went in search of an equaliser in the final 25 minutes.
Celtic were dealt a major blow in the stoppage time when Lantshene Phalane was shown a straight red card as they ended the match with 10 men.
However, Celtic held on to end their winless streak in the Absa Premiership after walking away with all three points.
