The Premier Soccer League (PSL) have confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs have been charged, following the disgraceful acts of violence on Saturday.
The Amakhosi were beaten 2-0 by Free State Stars and knocked out of the Nedbank Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. The fans reacted to the result by storming the pitch, attacking security guards, destroying broadcast equipment and setting parts of the stadium alight.
Now, days after the shocking scenes and after being found guilty of ‘spectator misbehaviour’ during their defeat to Chippa United at FNB Stadium earlier this month, the Soweto Giants face a fresh set of charges.
Chiefs will be summoned by the PSL Disciplinary Committee to thrash out the charges for the latest incident of violence. Chiefs were initially handed a R250 000 fine for the incidents that occurred after the defeat to Chippa, with R200 000 of that suspended for two years provided the events don’t re-occur.
Well, they have reoccurred and it is now expected that the rest of the fine will now be effected after the events at Moses Mabhida. This could be the bare minimum as there is still the possibility of further sanctions being handed down or even new charges.
The PSL confirmed the charges of Monday evening in a statement which read: ‘The Premier Soccer League has charged Kaizer Chiefs FC with bringing the League into disrepute and misconduct.’
‘The charges follow Saturday (21 April 2018) night’s Nedbank Cup fixture against Free State Stars FC where supporters invaded the pitch, assaulted some supporters and security officials and damaged property at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.’
‘Kaizer Chiefs will appear before the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee on 3 May 2018 at 6pm.’
