Kaizer Chiefs could face action from the Premier Soccer League following the crowd’s reaction to their 3-0 loss to Chippa United at the FNB Stadium.
The Chiefs faithful reacted to the embarrassing defeat by throwing a range of items on to the field and at the players. This was accompanied by chants of ‘Steve Must Go’ as the supporters called for the head of coach Steve Komphela.
The scenes at the FNB stadium come after Amakhosi were charged with contravening the safety and security manual after their fans threw objects at the officials following a defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns. It is thought that now the Naturena-based side could face a similar punishment.
PSL’s head of media Luxolo September told SoccerLaduma that processes would have to be followed.
‘What happened there is not good for football. But we have to follow [the] process: get match commissioner report, pass it to prosecutor and he must make an independent decision,’ said September.

CEO of Stadium Management SA Jacques Grobbelaar confirmed in a tweet that a ‘strategic meeting’ took place today to discuss the unsavoury events of the weekend, with Chiefs’ Bobby Motaung present alongside the South African Police Service. Grobbelaar also added that a press conference will be held on Thursday to discuss the matter.
