Kaizer Chiefs believe they will win an appeal against Fifa’s two-window transfer ban or they wouldn’t bother appealing, according to the club’s communication manager.

The Soweto giants have found themselves in hot water with football’s world governing body after they were found guilty of illegally signing Madagascar midfielder Ardriamirado ‘Dux’ Andrianarimanana.

Chiefs believed that Dax was available on a supposed free transfer from Fosa Juniors FC of Madagascar last season as the player was though to be out of contract, but Fosa insisted that they still had two years left on the deal with Dax and were entitled to a transfer fee.

Fosa then took the matter to Fifa, who have since ruled in the Malagasy club’s favour and have ordered Dax, who has since joined Black Leopards, to pay a fine of about R650,000 while he also been suspended for the next four months.

Chiefs, on the other hand, have been handed a two-window transfer ban but Chiefs’ communications manager, Vina Maphosa, confirmed that the Soweto club are appealing the matter and are confident of a positive outcome.

‘We will appeal, but we won’t tell you when. We are confirming that we are going to appeal. That means within the stipulated time [of 21 days upon the sanction announcement],’ Maphosa explained to IOL.

‘Let us be clear on that. We are appealing the case. The case has got nothing to do with our planning for matches. When you appeal, you appeal because you know you will win the appeal. You don’t just appeal. But I can’t discuss the case, sorry. I can’t. Not at all. No comments there.

‘It is a process. In a process anything can happen. We couldn’t have anticipated the outcome of any sort. I don’t want to get into whether we were surprised or not. Processes produce any results. We are not in a matter of surprises,’ Maphosa explained.

The news comes at a time when Chiefs are looking to maintain their position at the top of the Absa Premiership, while also targeting the Nedbank Cup as to end their trophy drought. Maphosa believes that the ban will have no effect on their ambitions this season.

‘It is not going to affect us on the field of play and towards our ambitions,’ Maphosa concluded.
