Kaizer Chiefs defeated Bloemfontein Celtic 4-2 to retain the Sparta Macufe Cup at the Free State Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Soweto giants grabbed the lead as early as the fifth minute after an impressive finish from Dumisani Zuma.
Celtic subsequently upped their efforts at finding a goal and were rewarded two minutes later when Victor Lestoalo levelled matters.
The match proved entertaining with both sides attacking, and it was Celtic who took the lead for the first time in the match as Letsoalo’s header found the back of the net in the 19th minute.
Chiefs, however, were level a minute later when youngster Siyabonga Ngezana found the back of the net with a towering header from a corner.
Steve Komphela’s side picked up an injury blow as defender Kgotso Moleko was forced off, but that didn’t seem to disturb their rhythm as they once again took the lead on the stroke of half-time with a well-taken header from Bernard Parker.
Komphela’s side went into the half-time break with a 3-2 lead.
Chiefs rang in the changes at the start of the second half with Komphela introducing Joseph Molongoane for Dumisani Zuma, William Twala for Bhongolethu Jayiya, Sibusiso Khumalo for Philani Zulu and Keagan Buchanan for George Maluleka respectively.
Celtic were denied an equaliser moments after Brilliant Khuzwayo did well to keep out a shot at the near post.
Amakhosi thought they had found the fourth goal when Ryan Moon headed home, but he was adjudged to have been in an offside position, much to the dismay of the 40000 strong crowd.
Moon, did, however get his name on the scoresheet as he made no mistake from the penalty spot in the 90th minute.
