Chiefs were too slow – Sono

Jomo Cosmos coach Jomo Sono revealed that Kaizer Chiefs were too slow in trying to sign Charlton Mashumba from the club.

The Glamour Boys have shown interest in signing the Zimbabwean striker in recent weeks but failed to make a move for the player.

Sono revealed that Amakhosi did not make a formal offer for the striker, instead that just informed the Cosmos CEO of their interest in the player.

‘Kaizer Chiefs didn’t make a concrete offer for Charlton Mashumba. The only thing they did was to tell me they were very interested in the player,’ Sono told KickOff.com.

‘They kept me waiting for a long time. I waited and waited but there was no follow-up, contact or anything. So I couldn’t wait forever. Highlands Park made an offer and I sold him to them.’

However, Mashumba was recently unveiled alongside Collins Mbesuma as the new strikers for Highlands Park, who gained promotion back to the Absa Premiership after a 24-year wait.

The Dube Bird are currently preparing for life in the National First Division following their relegation on the final day of the Absa Premiership last season.
