Chippa United have brought back striker George Akpabio to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2016-17 season.
The 23-year-old left the Chilli Boys in August 2015 to join Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor, scoring twice and picked up two assists from 18 appearances during his one-year spell at the club.
The 23-year-old has now returned to the country and is set to play for the Chilli Boys again next season, reports KickOff.com.
‘The coach [Dan Malesela] wanted to reinforce our striking force. We have since brought back George Akpabio who was playing in Turkey last season,’ Chippa United chairman Siviwe Mpengesi confirmed.
The chairman mentions that he would like to have success in both the MTN8 and the Absa Premiership after finishing sixth on the PSL table.
‘We want to start well with the top eight [MTN8]. Our intention next season is to win the league,’ Mpengesi added.
‘We did well last season. My dream and desire is now to win the league. We have a good coach in Dan Malesela and I have great belief in him.
‘The good thing this time around he that he will start with the team during pre-season training.’
During his career Akpabio has played for Vasco Da Gama, Ajax Cape Town and Nigerian side Plateau United FC, scoring 33 goals and making 47 appearances.
