Chippa United have signed veteran striker Katlego Mashego on a 20-month contract up until the end of the 2017-18 season.
The 34-year-old, who left Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2015-16 season, has joined the Chilli Boys on a free transfer.
Chippa executive chairman Chippa Mpengesi welcomed the former Bafana Bafana striker:
‘We are delighted to welcome Katlego Mashego to Chippa United Football Club. We were struggling a bit up front, and could not look further than Katlego who was immediately available for us,’ Mpengesi said.
He revealed that he also tried to lure Mashego into signing with the Chilli Boys when he left Golden Arrows at the end of the 2011-12 season.
‘We tried to get him to come to Cape Town (where the team was based before moving to Port Elizabeth), but he was not available. I am happy today that he will wear the blue and white of Chippa United. I wish him all the best during his time with us,’ he added.
Chippa United will next take on Cape Town City in the Absa Premiership at the Philippi Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off has been set for 15:30.
