Cape Town City owner John Comitis has defended the procedure by which he set about acquiring the status of his new club. 

Questions over Comitis’ conduct surfaced on Monday when it emerged that Peter du Toit allegedly owns the rights to the name Cape Town City. Du Toit, meanwhile, was horrified when he witnessed Comitis unveil a club by the same name.

Comitis, however, remains adamant he followed the correct legal procedure in registering his side and that he has done no wrong.

‘People who know me know that I do things by the book,’ he told reporters, before going to describe that the legality of the trademark had checked out prior to the registration.

‘Everything was approved by the PSL – it went through a procedure, and that’s why we are sitting here today talking about the future of Cape Town football. It would not be possible if it wasn’t possible,’ he insisted.

Cape Town City, which formally existed as Mpumalanga Black Aces, where unveiled as a new club by Comitis on June 29.

The side will open their 2016-17 campaign under the management of Erick Tinkler against Polokwane City on Tuesday, August 23.

The match will be played at Cape Town Stadium.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
