Cape Town City owner John Comitis has expressed his gratitude towards the club’s supporters after his side claimed their first Telkom Knockout title on Saturday.
Erick Tinkler’s side ran out 2-1 winners over SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium to claim their maiden trophy after months of the clubs existence.
The Club owner has heaped praise on the club’s supporters who came out to cheer the Cape Town side on during their debut in the TKO finals.
‘I’m elated. This crowd here today in Polokwane, they really got behind the boys. They play fantastic football you have to praise that. When guys come out and play entertaining football we have got to go for that and they’ve been doing that for a while,’ Comitis said after the match.
‘The whole of Cape Town is behind these boys and they feel it and they have this energy and it is unbelievable how they have come out. Unlucky to SuperSport it wasn’t their day but I’ve got to commend my coach because he’s an absolute master.’
Comitis has expressed his gratitude towards the club but admits that he didn’t expect his side to clinch their first piece of silverware so soon.
‘I didn’t think that we would do that [win a trophy] so quickly but I do know that we were building from the bottom up with the support I’m getting from Cape Town,’ he added.
‘From the city to SAFA Cape Town, from the teams that are from lower down that are supplying us with players – I can only be grateful.’
Cape Town City will be hoping to make it two wins from two against SuperSport United when the two side’s meet at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday.
Kick-off has been set for 18:00.
