Cape Town City’s ambitious owner John Comitis has confirmed an approach has been made to Premier League champions Leicester City about a prospective partnership. 

Cape Town City, the recreated Mpumalanga Black Aces, had initially sought to establish a relationship with the City Football Group; who own both New York City and Manchester City respectively.

Now, however, Comitis has revealed his club are in talks with another ‘City’.

‘I can tell you that we have made an approach to Leicester City, because we feel they have the same kind of aura, that they’ve come as this new team from nowhere … a bunch of very committed players, in blue, and changed the face of the Premier League, for years to come,’ he said, reports KickOff.

The boss explained they are seeking to build further partnerships abroad, as Cape Town City already has a grassroots training relationship with Manchester City.

The former Ajax Cape Town shareholder denied the relationship was ‘official’ in nature but did insist the likelihood of a  partnership was progressing the right direction.

Finally, the boss confirmed the club was still in negotiations with the City consortium as well, who are sponsored by the likes of  Etihad Airways.

‘It’s something I would pursue if I got a sniff that there is interest,’ he said.

‘I can tell you: Etihad is trying to land in Cape Town … so you can call that coincidence or synchronicity,’ he concluded.
