Ajax Cape Town have announced that Mich D’Avray will return to Cape Town to join the Urban Warriors technical team.

The 54-year-old had his first success as a coach with Cape Town Spurs being was awarded the South African Coach of the Year award in 1993, before leading Spurs to a league and cup double in the 1993–94 season.

With Roger de Sa (Coach PSL), Stanley Menzo (Head of Youth) and Vladislav Heric (Head Coach MDC and ABC Motsepe) already at the club, D’Avray will bring in vast international and local expertise to the club, reports the  Ajax Cape Town website.

‘We have had ongoing discussions with Mich to return to Cape Town for the past 18 months, and are very pleased to announce our latest acquisition,’ CEO Ari Efstathiou said.

‘The technical team now at the club, has a huge wealth of experience including South African, Dutch, English and Serbian influence, as players, coaches and managers. We have brought together a technical team that has the ability to produce short and long term results at Ajax Cape Town.’

De Sa revealed that D’Avray was brought in to strengthened the technical team in order for the Urban Warriors to compete at a higher level.

‘The club’s vision of consistently achieving success, including winning the league, required that I beef up the team around me. I feel by bringing in Mich, I have further strengthened the technical department which will enable the club to compete at the highest level,’ added de Sa.

D’Avray insisted that he is delighted and looking forward to moving back to Cape Town to join the Urban Warriors.

‘I am delighted to be coming “home” to Cape Town. I have been impressed with the vision of the club and I’m looking forward to joining the team at the start of pre-season training,’ D’Avray said.
