Former Kenya international forward Dennis Oliech, who has just completed a KNVB coaching course in South Africa, says he would have loved to play in the PSL and top score in the country.

The 31-year-old ex-Auxerre and Ajaccio striker, however, has turned to coaching and is keen to develop as a talent scout in particular.

‘I would love to identify talent. Coaching a team is a different skill and needs experience,’ Oliech says.

‘At the KNVB workshop I learnt about scouting and what you need to know as a coach and I’m excited as my role of Betway Ambassador to take what I’ve learnt back to Kenya.’

In 2013 and while the Kenyan star was playing in France’s Ligue 1, both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs were interested in him and Oliech now reveals what went through his mind at the time.

‘Yes, there was interest, and playing in the PSL and being the top goal scorer would have been something I would have loved to do,’ HE added.

‘What I miss most about not playing anymore is this: going to training every day!’

Oliech is Kenya’s second highest all time goal scorer with 34 goals to his name. He is remembered fondly for his goal against Cape Verde that propelled Kenya to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Tunisia.

He turned professional in 2003 and has played for Al-Arabi in Qatar, French Ligue 1 teams Nantes and AJ Ajaccio, French Ligue 2 side Auxerre and Dubai CSC in the UAE Division 1 league.

The South Africa World Coaches KNVB Workshop has ambassadors such as Nigerian great Nwankwo Kanu, Dutch legends Ruud Gullit, Philip Cocu, Pierre Van Hooijdonk and former Zambian star Kalusha Bwalya.
