Former Bafana Bafana star Phil Masinga believes South Africa U23 star Keagan Dolly should seek a move abroad to further his career.

Masinga revealed he has been impressed by South Africa’s U23 side at Rio 2016 despite their disappointing loss to Denmark while he has signalled out young wing Dolly for specific praise.

‘We have played well thus far – it is very inspiring, but you simply have to win games like that against Denmark to qualify for the knockout stages,’ Masinga told Goal.

The former player believes South Africa’s lack of composure in front of goal has been telling thus far but also has high hopes for the future of the senior national tea.

Masinga is also confident the 23-year-old Dolly has the quality to play in Europe and has urged the star to move abroad at the first possible opportunity.

‘I think he can play anywhere in Europe and the sooner the better because he needs to go and compete with the best in the world – the only way of doing so is to go and play in Europe,’ Masinga explained.

‘Be it Belgium, Portugal or France, he needs to start somewhere so that he can compete and if he does well one of the bigger teams will spot him.’

Dolly made 45 appearances for his club Mamelodi Sundowns last term as the side cruised to the Premiership title. The wing assisted and scored nine times apiece.
