A stunning goal by youngster Wandile Duba saw Kaizer Chiefs return to winning ways after their 1-0 win over Golden Arrows at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Amakhosi got off to a great start and managed to grab a goal in the 11th minute after Wandile Duba curled his effort into the top corner from outside the box to make it 1-0.
Duba had a chance to double his side’s lead eight minutes later but the Amakhosi attacker’s effort missed wide of the target.
The Soweto giants had another opportunity just after the half hour mark but Njabulo Ngcobo saw his shot blocked inside the area after he was played through on goal by Sifiso Hlanti.
Arrows had a chance of their own three minutes later but Angelo Van Rooi had his strike from outside the box saved by Bruce Bvuma.
The visitors began to pick up the pace and early levelled matters 39th minute but Knox Mutizwa blazed his effort wide of the target from outside the box before Nqobeko Dlamini dragged his effort wide of goal.
Amakhosi went into the half time break with a one-goal lead thanks to Duda’s 11th minute strike.
Arrows opted to make a double change at the restart as Sibusiso Sibeko and David Lukhele made way for Moyela Libamba and Nduduzo Mhlongo.
Amakhosi had a scare at the back three minutes later as Mutizwa fired his effort inches over the crossbar.
Chiefs made a double change of their own in the 57th minute as Efmamjjasond González and Ashley Du Preez came on to replace Wandile Duba and Christian Basomboli.
Bvuma came to his side’s rescue when he made a great save to deny Arrows a equalising goal in the 66th minute.
Cavin Johnson opted to bring on fresh legs in the 71st minute as Nkosingiphile Ngcobo came on to replace Keagan Dolly.
Arrows should have levelled matters in the 81st minute but Nduduzo Sibiya blazed his effort high and wide over the crossbar.
The visitors had another opportunity to equalise deep in stoppage time but Nhlanhla Zwane fired his effort too high over the bar as Amakhosi held on to snatch the win and all three points at the FNB Stadium.
