Ajax Cape Town commercial director Alexi Efstathiou has expressed delight with the appointment of Edwin van der Sar as the club’s new board member.
The 46-year-old former goalkeeper has now joined the Urban Warriors board following his appointment.
The club’s commercial director says he is delighted by the appointment of van der Sar and will be hoping the former Manchester United shot-stopper wealth of experience will help the club.
‘I think this is a great step by the club and directors. We are delighted to have him on board as we all know him as one of the most celebrated football legends of the game,’ Efstathiou told the Ajax Cape Town website.
‘He joins the Cape Town-based directors bringing with him lots of experience and a wealth of knowledge.
‘This will definitely make Ajax an exciting team and brand. We welcome him with open arms and we hope to see him in Cape Town soon.’
Efstathiou says he is confident that his appointment will help in redefining the club as one of best clubs in the world.
‘We are confident that his appointment will benefit the club, the players and everyone involved as he will bring his expertise,’ he added.
‘We also hope to see him in the next year, so we can discuss ideas such as bringing Ajax Amsterdam back to the city to play games and conduct some clinics.’
Ajax Cape Town will now travel to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium when they take on Platinum Stars in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday.
Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
