Polokwane City coach Luc Eymael says he was delighted with his side’s 1-0 victory over Chippa United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.
A free-kick from Rise and Shine captain Jabu Maluleke sealed the victory eight minutes from time as it takes the team to within three points of leaders Cape Town City.
The 57-year-old says he was more than delighted to have walked away with all three points and he believes it will give them motivation and confidence heading into their next match against Amakhosi.
‘I’m very happy about the win, now we have 21 points which I think is a record for Polokwane City in the first round [of the league],’ Eymael said after the match.
‘We travel now to Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United and I will certainly motivate my boys a lot to try and take some point there.
‘It will be nice if we can get two points from these games, maybe three points, in football you never know.’
The Belgian coach admits that his side’s win over Chippa was a hard-fought victory but insisted that it was a match of few chances for either side.
‘It was a very tactical game, not a lot of clear-cut opportunities. I think we did not take the correct decisions in the final third, in the matter of crossing, the matter of passing and the through-pass, but Chippa is a good team and it was also very tactical on their part,’ he added.
‘We continue on a good track, we will take it one game at a time and see where we will be in the future.’
Polokwane City will be hoping to extend their winning run when they face Kaizer Chiefs in the Absa Premiership on Sunday.
The match at the FNB Stadium kicks off at 15:30.
