Polokwane City coach Luc Eymael says he was disappointed with his side’s performance against Mamelodi Sundowns following their 2-0 defeat on Thursday.
The Brazilians claimed a 2-0 victory over Rise and Shine courtesy of goals by Hlompho Kekana and Themba Zwane in the Telkom Knockout Cup, to book their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The 57-year-old believes Rise and Shine’s performance was not up to standards and he believes his side showed Pitso Mosimane’s side too much respect following their success in the Caf Champions League.
‘It’s disappointing. I didn’t recognise my team today. We played against the best team that we’ve faced this season,’ Eymael said.
‘But I’m disappointed because my boys didn’t play the way they can, and they are aware of that.
‘It’s not the Polokwane that I try to build. We had a big lack of penetration and execution today. We started very slowly and showed our opponent too much respect.
Polokwane City will now travel to the New Peter Mokaba Stadium when they take on Baroka in the Absa Premiership on Sunday.
Kick-off has been set for 15:30.
