Maritzburg United striker Andrea Fileccia says he is looking forward to reuniting with coach Ernst Middendorp and making an impact for the club this season.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Team of Choice from Free State Stars revived his career, scoring six goals in 11 Absa Premiership matches before his season was disrupted by a horrific injury.
However, Fileccia insists his progression at United has been swell and he is relishing the chance to prove himself at the Absa Premiership outfit.
‘When I came to South Africa, I got a chance to play under coach Middendorp, and I was doing well until I got injured in a derby match against Celtic,’ Fileccia told the Maritzburg United website.
‘The first week in Maritzburg was a bit difficult for Andrea, being in a new City with new people.
‘I’m settling in and I’m responding very well on the field. I want to do well in Maritzburg,’ he said.
The former SBV Excelsior striker revealed that he has not set a target for himself this season, however, he remains confident that his side will do well this season.
‘I don’t want to set a target. I will take it game after game, and I think that the pitch will talk for me, but I am confident for this season,’ he added.
Fileccia says he is looking forward to playing alongside his fellow teammate Evans Rusike.
‘He is a very good player, very strong and he can score goals. I think as a team we will do well,’ the Belgium said.
The Belgium striker was one of 10 new players unveiled by United recently, including Bryce Moon, Bongani Mpande, Bevan Fransman, Lebohang Maboe, Themba Tshabalala, Dennis Wieldiech, Luyanda Ntshangase, Devon Saal and Blessing Moyo.
Maritzburg United will travel to the Dr Molemela Stadium when they face Bloemfontein Celtic in their opening Absa Premiership fixture on August 24.
Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
