Former Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Micho Sredojevic has vacated his role at Egyptian giants Zamalek after just 137 days.

The Serbian coach sent shock waves through South African football at the end of August when he left the Soweto giants under the guise of going back to Serbia to be with his sick mother, only for him to be unveiled as the new coach of Zamalek days later.

His reign got off to the perfect start as his side lifted the Egyptian Cup after a 3-0 win over Pyramids FC. Micho, though, has come under pressure in recent weeks after the shock defeat by ENPPI in the Egyptian Premier League. This was followed up by a heavy defeat by TP Mazembe in the Caf Champions League.

Sredojevic departs Egypt after being in charge of only 12 games, guiding Zamalek to seven wins, one draw and four losses.

His tenure, however, had as backdrop huge unrest at the club with reports suggesting that the five-time African champions have not paid their players in the past four months.

Micho admitted that reports in Egyptian media were true, which led to players going on strike. Tunisia international Hamdi Nagguez even had to terminate his contract during the latest ordeal.

Former Al Ahly boss Patrice Carteron, who won the Caf Champions League with Mazembe in 2015, is soon expected to be confirmed as his successor.
