Former Orlando Pirates defender Marshall Munetsi has officially signed a new contract with French Ligue 1 outfit Stade de Reims.
The Zimbabwe international joined the French Ligue 1 side following an impressive campaign with the Buccaneers in 2019.
The 23-year-old went on to make 21 appearances in all competitions while claiming two assists before the 2019-20 season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Munetsi’s impressive display for Reims this season has earned him a contract extension, with his initial contract set to expire in June 2023, but with his improved new deal, Munetsi will now remain at the club until June 2024.
‘Marshall was our first recruit in the last summer transfer window. He responded at the time to the needs which had been defined by the technical staff, who wanted an athletic player capable of performing both in central defence or as a midfielder,’ Reims president Jean-Pierre Caillot told the sports daily L’Equipe on Sunday.
‘This contract extension validates a promising first season. It touches me all the more since I know all the additional work that the player has put in to seize his chance.’
The club tweeted: ‘In just one season, he has won over the whole club! An impact player and a man of value, @MarshallMunetsi continues the adventure with Reims.’
