Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt revealed that he is saddened by the loss of Sibusiso Vilakazi following his transfer to Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Clever Boys finally announced that Sibusiso Vilakazi has joined Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, reports the Bidvest Wits website.
The 52-year-old coach revealed that Vilakazi was more than happy to remain at the club but the Brazilians were keen on signing the midfielder.
‘It is always sad to see a player go, but this happens,’ Hunt said.
‘The pressure came from their (Sundowns’) side – he was happy to stay.’
Ngele and Malajila had long been rumoured to be departing the club in part exchange for the 26-year-old star and with all parties now in agreement, the deal has been struck.
The Students also confirmed the signing of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Darren Keet from FC Kortrijk in Belgium. Keet is likely to challenge veteran goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs for the number one spot at Wits.
‘There has to be a natural progression and changeover, we also have young Carl Peters (as a goalkeeper),’ he added.
‘We are very happy to get a guy (Keet) like that, it is a good signing.’
The former SuperSport United coach insists that his side’s pre-season can now begin after the Vilakazi saga has been dealt with.
‘It (the pre-season) has been good, the whole Vilakazi thing was pending so now it is done and we can start working on our best combinations and get going,’ the Wits coach said.
