Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt believes his side put in a ‘magnificent’ performance following their triumph over Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 finals.
The Clever Boys ended a six-year trophy drought following their 3-0 victory over Sundowns at the Mbombela Stadium. The Students powered to an emphatic 3-0 win thanks to a brace from Daine Klate and one goal by former Brazilians’ striker Eleazar Rodgers.
Hunt says has praised his side’s performance in the finals and he believes this is the start of something new for Wits.
‘The whole team was magnificent,’ Hunt said after the match, ‘It’s a great occasion for the club.
‘I’ve won trophies before and some of these guys haven’t won but it’s a start.’
However, Hunt believes should have put the game to bed in the first half after having numerous opportunities to extend their lead and he believes he prepared his tactics well for the match.
‘I thought in the first half we had two or three great chances to make it three or four nil and then it would have been over,’ he added.
‘I just set up the team and try and play the best way we can play against opposition who are a very good side. I set up the team each week for how I feel we need to play in a certain game or whatever we need to do.’
When the Absa Premiership returns, Bidvest Wits will face Ajax Cape Town at the Cape Town Stadium on October 26.
Kick-off has been scheduled for 19:30.
