New Highlands Park coach Gordon Igesund insists his recent appointment at the club has not diminished his appetite for glory and titles.

Newly promoted Highlands have largely struggled in the new environment of the top the flight and the appointment of the experienced Igesund is anticipated to steady the ship.

The move is nevertheless somewhat of a surprise for a coach of Igesund’s stature given he has lifted titles with the likes of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in the past.

‘When you get that feeling of winning a championship you don’t want to stop because it is a wonderful feeling,’ Igesund told KickOff.

‘My targets are always fairly high. I am obviously not suggesting that Highlands Park will win the league this season because we have a big fight on our hands to survive, first priority is that and then the next priority is to finish as high as we can,’ he added.

The veteran tactician is set to maintain the technical team already in place at the club, where former coach Allan Freese worked beside assistant coach Thierry Mulonzo and goalkeeper coach Stavros Tsichlas.

Igesund will take charge of his new club for the first time this Friday when Highlands face Chippa United at Makhulong Stadium in the Telkom Knockout.

The action will get underway from 20:00.
