Kaizer Chiefs star Willard Katsande has declared that the side has come to terms with Steve Komphela’s coaching philosophy.
The Amakhosi were disappointing under Komphela last term as they ended the season in fifth place in the Premiership and failed to lift a trophy.
Katsande, however, believes the side will turn their fortunes around this term.
‘The onus was on us as players to do introspection as well after last season’s disappointing campaign,’ Katsande told KickOff. ‘We are now trying to rectify things and we have a better understanding about the coach’s philosophy.’
The player also believes the side is more united than they have been in the past and that that togetherness can inspire improvement.
‘It was always gonna take time for any player to adjust when a new coach comes in, you now. But with the coach being with the club in his second season we’re definitely looking to turn the tables around.’
The vice-captain also revealed he believes it is the job of the senior players to ease the transition of the new boys into the club’s setup.
‘It’s for us as players to build on that. Having said that it won’t be easy for the new players coming in. That’s why we will have to play our part to help the new guys get to that level of understanding as well,’ the player concluded.
Chiefs will travel to Bidvest Wits in their opening game of the new Premiership season.
The game will be played at the Bidvest Stadium on August 23.
Kick-off at 19:30.
