Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele says it was a ‘great feeling’ to play his first match for Amakhosi following their Carling Black Label Champion Cup clash against Orlando Pirates.

Following Amakhosi’s 2-0 victory over the Buccaneers in the Champion Cup, the former Mamelodi Sundowns captain was ecstatic to don the famous gold and black jersey for the first time.

‘It was a great feeling to wear the Gold and Black jersey for the first time in an official game,’ Mphahlele said.

The defender was voted in by the supporters to come on as a substitute early in the second half as he replaced Lorenzo Gordinho in the 55th minute, reports the Kaizer Chiefs website.

The 26-year-old revealed that playing for the Glamour Boys has always been a dream of his and defeating the Sea Robbers was the cherry on top.

‘There is no better way to make a debut than beating Pirates.

‘It was a humbling experience. I grew up wishing to play for Chiefs and this is a dream come true.’

Despite, Amakhosi winning the match, Mphahlele believes the hard work is still yet to come for Chiefs.

Rama signed for Amakhosi from Mamelodi Sundowns during the off-season:

‘It was a nerve wrecking experience, although I felt better after a few touches on the ball. However, work has just begun. We are still in pre-season,’ the defender said.

‘I went straight home after the match to rest and spend time with my family.’
