Ajax Cape Town striker Tashreeq Morris insists he had a good experience representing South Africa at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.

The 22-year-old came on as a substitute in each of the South African Olympic teams group matches and made an impact in all of them with his pace, strength and skill, reports the Ajax Cape Town website.

Morris feels honoured to have represented his country at the Rio Olympic Games and he believed his side should’ve gone further than they did after the performance against the host nation.

‘It’s a really good experience for me at the Olympics. It was an honour to represent my country for the first time and at such a high level as well,’ Morris said.

‘Seeing the team play during the build-up to the Olympics I thought we would do much better at the Olympics than what we did. After the first match against Brazil, I really thought we could go further as well, especially with the performances some of our players put in.’

The Ajax youth product has heaped praise on teammate Rivaldo Coetzee and former teammate Abbubaker Mobara for their performance during the Olympic campaign.

‘My former teammate Abbubaker Mobara was absolutely outstanding. He really amazed me, I got goosebumps watching him play while I was on the bench,’ he added.

‘He basically marked one of the top players in world football out of the game. Rivaldo Coetzee was also very good in all of the matches. He showed maturity out there, so it was amazing for me to play alongside them,” concluded Morris.’

Over the course of his career, Morris has made a total of 63 appearances, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further five in all competitions for Ajax.
