Jaakkola sale 'good' for the club – D’Avray

According to Ajax Cape Town assistant coach Mich D’Avray the sale of goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola to English Championship side Reading is positive for the club.

Jaakkola has agreed a move to Reading despite recently extending his contract with Ajax, while the quantity of the fee remains undisclosed, reports KickOff.

D’Avray confirmed as much when he addressed the media at an Urban Warriors press conference on Monday, along with the club’s recent additions Thabo Mosadi and Eric Chipeta

‘As we speak Anssi is in England having a medical for Reading. I don’t believe the deal has been finalised but I don’t foresee any hiccups in him joining,’ D’Avray said.

‘It’s a good move for him. He’s done well for the club, he’s got aspirations, I think his wife is from Scotland and she’ll be closer to home, which will be nice.’

D’Avray is convinced the sale is beneficial for the club.

‘It’s also a good move for the club because we’ve got a couple of really good young goalkeepers [Jody February and Brandon Petersen]. I’ve spoken to coach Roger de Sa and he agrees the two boys are ready to challenge for the number one jersey.’

Jaakkola has impressed in goal for Ajax in recent seasons and was nominated for the PSL Goalkeeper of the Season award two seasons ago.
