Johnson sets pre-season mandate

Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson insists that he has plans to keep Dikwena fit and ready for the upcoming Absa Premiership season.

The 57-year-old coach insists that Dikwena has a programme in place to get his side ready for the new season.

‘Part of the pre-season is for the players to start now getting into the swing of training. They have been given an off season programme to train every day for 10 minutes, 20 minutes or 30 minutes either on the field or gym. We hope the players do their part in keeping shape for next season,’ Johnson told Platinumstars.com.

‘This break has been longer than normal. It’s has been almost six weeks off. We have given them a little longer. We have given them off season programme to start off before they start preseason so we are looking forward to that.’

Johnson revealed that a press statement will be released regarding players staying and leaving the club and will be participating in a pre-season tournament in Mpumalanga in preparations for the 2016-17 season.

‘Everything is rearing to go. In pre-season, we will spend time in Mpumalanga. At the end of the pre-season, we will go there like we did last year. Everything is fine,’ he added.

‘We are prepared and we are ready. We set up everything. So far everybody is on holiday. There would be a press statement regarding players coming and going hopefully by the end of next week.’

The former SuperSport United coach insists that he has been reading and watching football, keeping up-to-date with the latest tactics that he could apply to his coaching methods.

‘I am always reading and I am always debating with my staff about what we are going to do. We are on those things just to make sure we bring a different product on the pitch next year,’ the Dikwena coach said.

During the 2015-16 season, Johnson guided his side to a third-place finish in the Absa Premiership with 47 points, picking up 13 wins, nine draws and suffering eight defeats.
