SuperSport United forward Jeremy Brockie is remaining positive despite struggling to find the back of the net for his club so far this season.
The New Zealand star impressed last season as he netted 18 goals across all competitions for the side but that form has not carried over into the season. Thus far, the striker has failed to net a single goal in six competitive fixtures.
The 29-year-old has revealed he is not panicking, however, and has taken Hart from Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane’s slow start in the Premier League last season. Kane eventually took the golden boot for his exploits last term despite only netting his first goal in his seventh appearance.
‘It’s been very quiet, hasn’t it?’ Brockie admitted to the media on Thursday, reports KickOff. ‘I guess as a striker you would always like to get off the mark as early as possible, and I haven’t been able to do that yet.
‘But I only have to look at someone like Harry Kane, who last season didn’t score for the first [six] games, and ended up being the golden boot winner of the Premier League, so I’ll take inspiration from what he did last season.’
Brockie has not given up hopes of claiming the golden boot at the end of this Premiership season but finds himself five goals off the pace set by current leader Tendai Ndoro.
‘I think Ndoro is obviously on five, from memory, but his goals all came in the first two games and he’s gone through a quiet patch too. All strikers sort of go through hot and cold periods and my cold period is right now but the hot will start on Sunday,’ he concluded.
SuperSport face Highlands Park at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.
The action gets underway from 15:30.
