Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune believes the heat affect his side’s ability to implement their game plan against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
The Glamour Boys played out to a goalless draw against the Buccaneers in an unentertaining Soweto Derby at the FNB Stadium in the Absa Premiership.
The 29-year-old insists that the heat played a major factor in their goalless draw against the Buccaneers and he believes that it affected their game plan on the day.
‘The heat affected us,’ Khune told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
‘We usually play at night,
‘Only seldom during the day. The pace at which we wanted to move the ball around should have been much faster. However, the high temperatures made that nearly impossible. Both teams didn’t play at their best as a result of the immense heat.’
The Bafana Bafana shot-stopper says he was delighted that his side kept a clean sheet against and has credited the Amakhosi defence for not conceding but he believes both side’s defence did well on the day.
‘Every goalkeeper wants a clean sheet. However, credit must also go to our defence,’ he added.
‘Both teams came up with their tactical battle plans. There were box entries, but both defences did well.’
Kaizer Chiefs will focus on their Absa Premiership clash against Baroka on Wednesday
The match at Moses Mabhida Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
