Steve Komphela explains his Kaizer Chiefs side’s strong recovery following a troubled start to the new season.
The Amakosi had started the new season on the wrong foot following a dire conclusion to last season’s trophyless campaign. Having being knocked out of the MTN8 and having taken just a point from their opening two Premiership fixtures, the side has since gone on a four-match winning streak.
The side now sits pretty at the top of the Premiership table, which Komphela believes was enabled by the strong understanding the side’s players have.
‘The support we get and the comfort to understand that we are in this together,’ Komphela told KickOff.
’When there were trying times, because of who we are, everybody else outside was pressing a panic button. But the maturity of the people you work with there have been in the game for so long and they understand the cycles,’ the coach insisted.
Komphela explained that Chiefs’ start appeared all the worse because they had fallen out of a knockout competition.
‘When you go in [at Naturena] they don’t remind you that something has to be done because they know the obligation and the responsibility on all of us. Winning or losing, you go into the gate and security, everybody is highly focused,’ he concluded.
Chiefs are next in action when they face Maritzburg United in the Telkom Knockout on Saturday.
Kick-off at the FNB Stadium is at 20:15.
