Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela believes that his side are in for a tough game against Baroka FC when the two meet in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final on Saturday, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
The Amakhosi are yet to win a trophy under Komphela and are hoping that the Nedbank Cup could finally end their trophy drought. They, however, first need to get past a determined Baroka side in the quarter-final.
Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference on Wednesday, the former Maritzburg United coach highlighted the threat that their opponents pose.
‘Matches that we play against Baroka are always very tense. Previous experiences, even when they were still in NFD [National First Division], they always give us problems. No different to any other team, any team that comes and plays Chiefs is very deadly and highly focused, so we are expecting the same.
‘With regards to ourselves, we know that we have to go and win this one so that we can get our chances of getting into the semis.
‘They play with lots of energy, they have lots of quality players. That energy with the element of excitement that they are playing Kaizer Chiefs obviously elevates the match. We are expecting a very tough match. Obviously, it’s quarter-finals and in quarter-finals, you always get top teams that have made it to that point and Baroka are no different.’
Kaizer Chiefs will take on Baroka FC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday evening where the teams will battle it out for a spot in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.
