Steve Komphela backed his decision to start veterans Siphiwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker on the bench and dedicated Kaizer Chiefs’ 1-0 victory over Platinum Stars to the Chiefs’ faithful.

The Soweto giants put an end to a five-game consecutive winless streak in the Absa Premiership when Tshabalala came off the bench to net the only goal of the game.

The victory lifted Chiefs into third position on the table and Komphela dedicated the win to the supporters.

‘This is one for our supporters. We will record this as Christmas come early for our loyal supporters,’ he told the club’s official website.

‘We will gain confidence from this win, although we are not playing as fluent as we should and we didn’t perform well in the first half. But a win is a win.

‘Itumeleng Khune and Siphiwe Tshabalala have loads of experience and that’s something you can’t buy in a supermarket.

‘It was a good decision to start with Parker and ‘Shabba’ on the bench, as they made an immediate impact after coming on in the second half.

‘Shabba provided us with options. Don’t forget as well that we still have to continuously adjust as we have a few important players out injured.

‘Luckily, these are now getting close to full fitness, which will give us a nice headache when it comes to team selection,’ he concluded.
