Kaizer Chiefs boss Steve Komphela says he is pleased by the performance of his fringe players following his decision to deploy them in Macufe Cup.
The annual friendly tournament allowed Komphela to field some his more sparsely utilised stars this season and the side did not disappoint, dismantling Bloemfontein Celtic to claim a decisive 4-1 victory.
‘We are happy, because they need to get game-time,’ Komphela reflected, speaking to SuperSport. ‘There’s nothing that gets a player to perfection than the match itself – the match is the best teacher.
‘So this is the environment where you say, “Those who had been playing, good enough you have been playing and there’s some mileage on your legs, but what about those who had not been playing?” So this was the perfect opportunity, and we are happy.’
The coach admitted he had been impressed by what he had seen from his stars.
‘Moleko and Tsepo did very well, at the top Parker and Shabba did very well – Parker worked very hard, Jabu [Manqele] as well.
‘In fact [Manqele] was teasing me on the bench, asking why on earth I took him out just two minutes before he got his goal!’ Komphela said. ‘But he will get it, he will get it.’
Chiefs’ next competitive fixture sees them take on Ajax Cape Town on Saturday.
Kick-off at the FNB Stadium is at 18:00.
