Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen has commended defender Nkanyiso Mngwengwe for his performances and consistency so far this season.
The 27-year-old has been one of the club’s most consistent players, having scored a goal from nine appearances in all competitions.
‘Nkanyiso Mngwengwe is a player who has been very, very consistent this season for us. We worked hard with him during the pre-season and I’m very happy with the performance he has been delivering,’ Larsen commented.
‘I said a few weeks ago that even for the national team, he is someone who deserves a look-in because of his consistent performances.’
Larsen strongly believes the former Umngeni City Movers defender has earned the right to be called up to the South African national team.
‘I think he has the ability to play at national level and he has performed well, together with Limbikani Mzava. He has a combination of qualities and has grown from last season. He has developed his reading of the game a bit better.
‘He is composed in possession and in pressurised situations he can play out of the back with comfort and ease. When needs be, he can be aggressive and win tackles. He is strong aerially and has all the qualities you need in a defender. He is also always involved in setplays and is a nuisance in the opponent’s box.’
Golden Arrows take on Highlands Park at the Makhulong Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Sunday.
Kick-off has been scheduled for 15:30.
