Cape Town City midfielder Lebogang Manyama says he is aiming to help the club leave a lasting legacy in the top flight of South African football.

Following the acquisition Mpumalanga Black Aces and their subsequent relaunch as the Mother City club, the new franchise have made a positive start to life in the Premiership.

Currently fourth on the table with eight points to their name after five matches, Manyama believes he can play an important role for the club in his capacity as captain.

‘We are a new club in this league and trying to build some kind of legacy and foundation that the club can move on to bigger things from,’ the midfielder told KickOff.

‘So it is very important that as the first group of players we do things right so that we go on to be remembered as a group that set the footing. It is really important to have that in mind whenever we go onto the field as players of Cape Town City.’

Manyama believes the early performances of the side and their players could go a long way to shaping the mentality of the club as a whole.

‘When I put in the effort I am not doing it for personal glory but helping the team move towards the right direction. I understand the responsibilities on my shoulders and I want to measure up to them by stepping up whenever called for duty,’ he explained.

Manyama has been in fine form this season having netted once from his eight appearances thus far.
