Cape Town City captain Lebogang Manyama says his team’s fate in the MTN8 was sealed during the first leg of their semi-final against Bidvest Wits.

Eric Tinkler’s side played out to a goalless draw with Wits in the second leg of the semi-finals following a 3-0 defeat in the first leg at the Bidvest Stadium.

Manyama says he sees the experience as a learning curve following the newly formed side’s debut in the MTN8.

‘We tried our best but in all honesty, I mean this game was long gone from the first leg. We lost it in the first leg but we had to come here and show that we are the home team,’ Manyama said after the match.

‘We tried our best you know but we played the better team. For us, it’s still a learning curve all we have to do is congratulate them.’

The 26-year-old says his side created scoring chances and could not find the back of the net but he admits has to accept their elimination from the tournament and come back stronger.

‘You know if we got one (goal) it would have been better for us and we kept on looking for it. These things don’t come sometimes and you have to accept it,’ he added.

‘But at least we tried, we’re creating chances, we just need to take one and then we’ll take it from there.’

Cape Town City now turn their attention back to the Absa Premiership when they face Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.

Kick-off is scheduled to get underway at 19:30.
