Free State Stars have been dealt a huge blow after captain Paulus Masehe suffered a hamstring injury during their opening Absa Premiership clash against Chippa United.

The 32-year-old limped off the field 10 minutes into the second-half at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium after sustaining an injury.

However, club physio Ryan Coert revealed that the injury is not as bad as first feared, according to the Free State Stars website.

Coert confirmed that the former Orlando Pirates midfielder will be out for a couple of weeks and will now wait for an MRI scan to see the extent of his injury.

‘It looks like the player will be sidelined for a couple of weeks, but of course depending on the MRI scan results,’ Coert said.

Stars coach Denis Lavagne will be hoping to have the veteran midfielder back before their next Absa  Premiership clash against Bloemfontein Celtic on September 14.

Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
