Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo says he is proud of the way his side played against Mamelodi Sundowns in their Absa Premiership at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday.
The Urban Warriors claimed their second victory in the Absa Premiership this season following their 2-0 victory over Pitso Mosimane side.
Menzo knew that the longer they stayed in the game the more likely it was they would score on the break, and that’s what happened.
The 53-year-old believes his side deserved to walk away and collect all three point against the Brazilians following their recent turn in form .
‘I’m very proud of this team, we had to do a lot of work in the last few weeks and come out of a difficult situation,’ Menzo said after the match.
‘The performance not only today but over the last few weeks was great and this is what they deserved.’
The Dutchman says he want the Urban Warriors to learn from the way the African champions play, in order to gain the maturity the team needs to improve their performance.
‘That’s maturity [having a balance between offence and defence]. If I see how Sundowns play, they have that. We have to learn that, we have to develop in that part,’ he added.
‘Temporise the game, when do you put pressure, when do you sit back, when do you keep the ball … those things we have to learn and it will come as long as we keep going like this.’
Ajax Cape Town will be hoping to continue their winning ways when they take on Golden Arrows in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.
The match at Cape Town Stadium kicks off at 20:15.
